Take It from the Top, at New York's New Federal Theatre.

"When I grow up, I want to be just like Ruby.  She is just as as gracious and loving on the inside as she is talented and beautiful on the outside. 

"One of my proudest moments was doing my show at the National Black Theatre Festival just a few short months after Ruby's husband, Ossie Davis, had died...and seeing Ruby sitting in the front row with poet Sonia Sanchez. 

"For a moment, my heart stopped when I saw her. How was she going to receive this rather bawdy play about sex and the mature woman?  I needn't have worried.  Ruby laughed her ass off throughout the whole play and rose at the end with the rest of the audience to give us a standing ovation.

"If for only 85 minutes, I was able to relieve her of her grief at losing her beloved Ossie.

"That is the power of The Actor. That is why I/WE do what we do."
